Scholarship Duration:
- The ADB-JSP Japan Scholarship is for one (1) year, with the option to extend it to the second year of study, if necessary. This extension is contingent upon the scholar continuing to perform at a level that is deemed adequate by the institute.
- For master’s programs, the scholarship award’s maximum term is two (2) years.
Eligibility Criteria of the ADB Scholarships 2023:
Candidates must fulfill the requirements listed below in order to be eligible for an ADB-JSP Japan Scholarship:
- A native of a country eligible for Japanese ODA scholarships and an ADB borrowing member
- Admittance to an MA program at a university that was accepted.
- A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, together with an outstanding academic record.
- At the time of application, have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (gained after receiving a degree from a university). To pursue education, one must possess excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- At the time of application, not older than 35. In extreme circumstances, the age restriction is 45 years old for programs that are suitable for senior officials and managers.

- Should be willing to leave the program after finishing their education and return to their native country.
- The Scholarship is not available to Executive Directors, Alternative Directors, ADB management and staff, consultants, or the immediate family of any of the aforementioned.
- The Scholarship is not available to employees of institutions that the ADB-JSP has recognized.
- Scholarships are not available to applicants who reside or work outside of their country of residence.
- Candidates who are already enrolled in graduate degree programs are not supported by the ADB-JSP.
- Undergraduate studies, remote learning courses, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects are not sponsored by ADB-JSP.

How candidates are Selected for ADB-JSP Japan Scholarship?
While bearing in mind the eligibility requirements and selection criteria of the ADB, the academic institution will screen and rank the candidates based on its own selection criteria. The academic institution may get in touch with the candidates during the review process to get more details. The academic institution will then send ADB its list of candidates with rankings along with an explanation of the scoring/grading methodology used to determine the rankings.
ADB will evaluate the submission from the academic institutions and suggest recipients to the Executive Director of Japan for official approval based on ADB’s selection criteria.
ADB will give academic institutions advice on the chosen candidates when the Executive Director of Japan gives his permission.
The academic institution will notify all applicants of the results of the selection process and start making preparations for the scholarship recipients to accept their awards.
The academic institutions will set up the signing of the scholarship recipient’s acceptance letter, in which the awardee declares their intent to return home when their studies are through.
ADB will use the university to offer appropriate congratulations to scholars.
